What is a third-party processor?
A third-party processor is an independent company that provides a range of merchant services on behalf of a financial institution (i.e. a bank, building society or card issuer). This could include hosting the point-of-sale network, and sending authorisation requests to the relevant card schemes. Some processors could also offer settlement services, facilitating payment to the merchant.
